National Development Bank (NDB) practitioners from across regions are strengthened when they can come together to exchange knowledge and promote common best practices. Momentus (formerly IFCL) provided this opportunity through a peer-to-peer learning series of virtual workshops implemented by our institutional capacity building initiative, the Centre of Excellence for National Development Banks (CENDB).
In early 2022, CENDB joined 25 participants from seven NDBs across the Caribbean and Pacific Islands to discuss their financing approaches for small- and mid-size enterprises (SMEs). The “Innovative SME Finance” workshops, sponsored by the Investment Climate Reform Facility, facilitated deep discussions on how NDBs can meet their mandates to meaningfully support local entrepreneurs while more effectively balancing financial sustainability.
To facilitate peer learning and open discourse, each participating institution contributed a compelling case study that examined a recently developed offering and/or a current success or challenge. This innovative approach was extremely well received based on participant feedback and CENDB intends to scale this approach on other upcoming courses.
